This book had so much potential..this book felt rushed skipping days and weeks at times. The book to me had more than one story and none of the characters even got to see a happy ever after ...I get it it's a series but my god at least have the main characters have there happy ending and not just cut off leaving me more frustrated because I still don't know what the hell happened to any of the characters. I skimmed the second book and still no answers . To me this book was definitely lacking details.. there was no romance besides a few kissed. Definitely lacking in passion and chemistry. I like my books with spice but don't always need it if the author can pull me in. This book was not worth reading.to many un-answered questions. The best part about the book where the 16 year old girls ..they made the book with there humor and always knowing everything . This book could have been a great series, her writing style was good but just not enough details , felt rushed . Definitely wouldn't recommend. 1.5Product details

This was a really good story ruined by poor editing. And I'm not trying to be mean here, because I really liked the plot but this award-winning author just seemed to have a shaky grasp of the finer nuances of language.
Plot Good story, with several subplots. Lady Phoebe's meltdown at her house party is an especially good scene.Unfortunately, I gave up halfway through because the editing was so awful.
Character Development/Continuity Main characters and secondary characters too, are interesting, and you'll care what happens to them. Dobbs is deft at showing the development of the siblings' relationship. Even before you meet Tristan, you want to know him because you've learned quite a lot about him..
Editing Words like averse/adverse and compliment/complement were used interchangeably. There were a lot of duplicate words and random words that should have been deleted. Duchesses or marquesses was used when the singular possessive duchess's or marquess's was meant. Which brings me to family names. The plural of Leighton is Leightons, not Leighton's. Therefore, you're going to the Leightons', not the Leighton's, unless only one Leighton lives there.
Setting Regency England. Language is appropriate to the period but not intrusive.
It's normal for authors not to 'see' their words - and their errors - after dozens of rewrites. If you don't want to hire an editor, get some beta readers. Heck, I'd be happy to do it.
Bottom line If you're unbothered by editing, you might love this. I'd give it 4 stars at least on the story alone.
All the 'historical' and 'mail order bride' and the like are basically badly written unproofed bad excuses for soft core porn, no ploy no reason no sense
3 in Silver Hollow Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series so far which are on kindle unlimited, 3 in the Moosamuck Island Mysteries , 5 in the Mystic Notch Cozy Mysteries so far {not ku}, Blackmore Sisters has 7 {not ku}, Hazel Martin Mysteries only has 1 so far, Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery series 12 so far is on ku. Others.including Scandals and Spies Book series so far 4 which are basically romance soft core porn dreck but hey you can get them on ku. Witches of Hawthorne Grove 1 so far,Cevonne Bride of Oklahoma, Unexpected Series 4 so far ku.
Some not all of her other books are Unlimited, writes as Leighann Dobbs writes under Leighann Dobbs, Annie Dobbs and (soon) L.A. Dobbs but her real name {not sure if she writes under that one} is Lee Dobbins. Hazel Martin Mysteries does not have terms used that match the British terms as well as in other areas for that period of architecture and assorted styles.
The Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery Series By the way, bakeries and other food service places don't run like that. Badly needs to proof things, it's messing up the flow of the book, which my computer reads to me, so that's bad. As for these, it's not that the situations couldn't happen, it's in the telling of the story, with unlikable unbelievable characters and situations, again.
Plan on copy/paste reviews because that seems to be pretty much what she is doing in her books, which wouldn't be half as bad if the plots and ploys and actions were believable at all.Just change the name for a book and maybe change the series list under, and you are right back to copy paste same old same old.
The blurb pretty well sums up everything that happens. Claire and Melissandra talk ad naseum about their plan to get one of "the graces" (3 single dukes) to marry Mel, or how they both need to marry this season. They also dance, go to the theater,house parties, gardens, and libraries...where they talk some more. There's also some talk about Duke Rothwell's missing brother. While there were a few kisses (5 total?), there was a major shortage of action of any variety. And no explanation is given for the betrothed's presence in the Rothwell house at all. (I kept hoping to hear what happens when the duke goes to Newgate, or when Phoebe tries to rescue her brother, or Claire & Mel go to the docks to check out Tony the pirate captain,... but nothing as exciting as that ever happens...)
The point of view jumps around without warning and the writer has problems with possessives - if something belongs to the duchess, it's the duchess', not the duchesses which is plural. Otherwise, the writing mechanics are fairly clean.
Perhaps, this tale was simply not to my taste. I'm not into angst, and I like a lot more action. I finished it only because it was short and easy to skim through. The proposal was hardly unexpected, and I expect to skip other stories by this author. - 2.5
