AT OUR F-100 FIGHTER SQUADRON STATIONED AT BIEN HOA AIR BASE, SOUTH VIETNAM, ALL ANY OF US PILOTS KNEW ABOUT SNAKES WAS THAT THEY WERE SLIMY CREATURES THAT COULD POISON YOU, EAT YOU, TWIST YOUR BONES, OR CRUSH YOU AT THEIR LEISURE. IT WAS COMMON KNOWLEDGE THAT THE VILE CREATURES ALWAYS HAD YOUR WORST INTERESTS IN THEIR COLD, DARK HEARTS. BUT THAT WAS BEFORE A FRIENDLY FAC (AIRBORNE FORWARD AIR CONTROLLER) PRESENTED US WITH A MASCOT. AND SO IT WAS THAT WE CAME TO KNOW AND LOVE OUR SQUADRON'S RESIDENT REPTILE, WHO WE NAMED RAMROD.

Good Reading
I got this e-book after reading "Rolling Thunder". It further explains a topic in that book. It was very amusing.
Forty years later, most of the current generation has no idea of what combat pilots endured and how they lived during the Vietnam War. This is another great story by a warrior who was there and has the talent to tell the story.

Being stationed with ppl who served in Vietnam nam I know it's the short stories that humanize an unpopular time. Here's to Ramrod thanks for bringing joy into this world )
Just a very short story, a lighter side of the war. Sort of like a college fraternity story of antics surrounding their mascot, except it is a large snake and it is in Vietnam. Got it for free for , but was worth the few minutes to download and read. Guys have fun even in a war zone. Take a few minutes and enjoy the story.
Subset of 5 book series, written by a Vietnam area USAF pilot, which goes into great flying detail, but also his thoughts about how the war was mishandled, in many cases, but also about the brave men, and in some cases, inept men, that were there. This Short story is interesting by itself, but you really need to read all 5 books, in sequence to really understand the air war in Vietnam.
